At a January 20th New America event, an esteemed panel came together to discuss what happens when authority and technology collide. In light of Google's recent announcement that they will no longer abide by China's censorship laws, the panel addressed the ethical, legal, and operational impediments for businesses that wish operate in China and other countries attempting to control access to information. The panel consisted of Alec Ross, Senior Adviser for Innovation in the Office of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; Tim Wu, Schwartz Fellow and Columbia Law Professor; Rebecca MacKinnon, Fellow at the Open Society Institute and Co-Founder of Global Voices Online; and Evgeny Morozov, Contributing Editor for Foreign Policy Magazine and Yahoo! Fellow in the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University. James Fallow, member of the board at the New America Foundation, moderated the panel of experts.
